Privacy notice
GPS Map Camera is designed to work without collecting your personal data. This page explains exactly what happens to your photos and location.
Your photos
Photos you take or import are processed only inside your browser on your device. They are never uploaded to our server or to any third party, and we cannot see them. Closing or reloading the page discards the photo unless you downloaded or shared it.
Camera and location permissions
The camera and your location are used only after you allow them in your browser, and only while the page is open. You can withdraw permission at any time in your browser's site settings. Location tracking pauses while the page is hidden in the background.
When your location is sent to other services
- Map tiles. To show the map and draw the map preview on your photo, your browser downloads map images from
tile.openstreetmap.org. Like any website request, this reveals your IP address and the approximate area being viewed to that provider. - Address lookup. To turn coordinates into an address, your browser sends the coordinates (rounded to about 11 metres) to this website, which forwards them to
nominatim.openstreetmap.org(OpenStreetMap Nominatim by default). The provider sees our server's request, not your IP address. To respect the provider's usage limits, lookup results are cached on our server for up to 7 days, keyed by the rounded coordinates. The cache does not contain your IP address, photos or any identifier. To prevent abuse, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for about 10 minutes to count requests.
These providers have their own privacy policies, for example the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Data stored in your browser
Your stamp design preferences (fields shown, font, colours, size, position, date format) and preferred photo shape are saved in your browser's local storage so they are ready next time. Recent address lookups are kept in session storage until you close the tab. No photos or location history are stored. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.
Metadata in downloaded photos
If Save GPS & time in file is ticked, the downloaded JPG contains the recorded GPS coordinates and capture time as metadata. Anyone you share the file with can read it. Untick the option to save the photo without this metadata. Locations you set manually are never written as GPS metadata.
No accounts, adverts or tracking
There is no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookies. Our web host may keep standard server access logs (such as IP address, time and requested page) for security and operations.
